Prince gig to be shown in cinemas


Prince was a huge star in the 1980s and early 1990s
Rock star Prince has announced plans to broadcast a live concert to cinemas around the US on 29 March.
The Los Angeles gig - the first major show in Prince's Musicology tour - will be shown via satellite at 32 Regal Cinema venues around the country.

Prince has pledged to perform many of his old hits for the last time on the tour, which takes in 38 cities.

The 45-year-old performer will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next Monday.

The singer will be reunited with band the New Power Generation for the first time in six years.

US music magazine Rolling Stone said the ticket cost of $15 (£8) includes a copy of the album, also called Musicology.

The album has not yet found a distributor and will not be available at the usual retail outlets, said the magazine. :roll: 8O
"Musicology is very important to us. (The word) means that when we create music, we let it dictate our next moves in life," the singer told Billboard.com when the tour was announced last month.

Other stars including David Bowie have played similar cinema gigs.

Bowie performed to tens of thousands of fans when his concert at London's Riverside Studios was beamed into cinemas around the world.

Fans in Europe watched the show live - but it was being aired later in other countries due to time differences.

Prince's most recent release, Musicology, In Stores Now
MTV Networks, BET and Columbia Records today announced that, for the first
time in history, MTV, MTV2, VH1, VHI Classic and BET will broadcast a single
program on the same night, at the same time -- a ground breaking, 30 minute
television special featuring performances and interviews with 2004 Rock and
Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Prince.

The special will be road blocked across all of the participating music
channels, and will air on Wednesday, April 28th, from 9:00 PM to 9:30 PM
(ET). Check local listings in your time zone for more information. Four of
the participating networks will air the special under the title Prince: The
Art of Musicology, while BET has dubbed their broadcast Music & Words by
Prince.

Recorded before a live audience at New York City's Webster Hall, the one of
a kind television event features brilliant performances of material from
Prince's eagerly awaited new release Musicology, including the critically
acclaimed title track and the powerful "Dear Mr. Man." Also included is an
historic acoustic solo performance of a medley of deep classics from
Prince's catalog.

Prince's most recent album, Musicology, was released through NPG
Records/Columbia Records on April 20th, 2004.

Prince commented, "The support for Musicology is wonderful. We're pleased to
broadcast the Musicology special throughout the Viacom music channels. It is
great to see audiences around the country embracing music again."

"This historic broadcast, going out simultaneously over the five most
influential music networks, is a tribute to the music and artistry of one of

Columbia Records Group. "With a fast-paced combination of brilliant
performances and compelling interviews this show will be remembered as one
of the most special entertainment events of the year."

releases. We can think of no better place to punctuate his return to the

programming, Stephen Hill, which features not only Prince's performances,

Prince kicked off 2004 with a stunning opening per4mance at the 46th Grammy
Awards with multiple-award-winner Beyonce and his spectacular induction into
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and launched the phenomenally successful
"Musicology" concert tour in March of this year.

Prince is regarded by fans and critics alike as a monumental force and
influence in popular culture. During the '80s, Prince emerged as one of the
most singular talents in the history of music, releasing a series of ground
breaking albums that both defined and captured the spirit of the times. A

selon MTV France hier soir, pas de diffusion demain sur aucune chaine du reseau viacom hors-US

MTV Europe a racheté ce programme à MTV US (c'est un peu compliqué comme systeme) MTV France pense le diffuser avant l'ete dans le cadre d'une "Night With Prince" (idem la night avec les jacksons, presentée par Diam's, pour Prince ils cherchent un fan-star pour monter le truc).
L'idee etant de bloquer un large creneau pour diffuser des clips et ce qui traine dans les archives MTV.
Peut etre le moyen de recuperer les anciennes perfs avec une bonne qualité
