NEW YORK (AP) - L'ancien Beatle George Harrison, Prince, John Mellencamp et Jackson Browne figurent au nombre des artistes nommés pour entrer en 2004 au Panthéon du rock.
Décédé d'un cancer en novembre 2001, Harrison fait déjà partie du Rock and Roll Hall of Fame en tant que membre des Fab Four. Ses anciens acolytes John Lennon et Paul McCartney l'ont précédé dans cette voie grâce à leur carrière solo.
Parmi les artistes nommés une nouvelle fois, figurent les Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gram Parsons et Patti Smith. The Dells, The "5" Royales, Bob Seger, the Stooges, Traffic ou encore ZZ Top ont aussi des chances de rejoindre ce cercle prestigieux en 2004.
Les bulletins de vote ont été envoyés cette semaine aux membres du Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, situé à Cleveland.
Pour pouvoir faire partie du Panthéon du rock and roll, il faut au moins que 25 années se soient écoulées depuis la sortie du premier enregistrement. Les noms des récipiendaires devraient probablement être annoncés en décembre. AP

It's a lock: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will announce sometime in the next few days that Prince is one of its new inductees. Given his career, influence and impact, he is the most compelling choice on a ballot that includes John Mellencamp, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, George Harrison, the Sex Pistols, Bob Seger, Black Sabbath and Patti Smith, among others.
What's not certain is who will give Prince's induction speech at the ceremonies in March in a New York City hotel ballroom. Because the event is taped and edited for broadcast on VH1, the programming poobahs seem to have some sway when it comes to choosing presenters.
With all due respect to Paul Shaffer, who traditionally directs the live music for the induction ceremonies, we offer a Top 10 list of candidates to induct Prince.
10 Sly Stone. A Hall member, he was a major influence on Prince, and Sly's hybrid sound and coed, multiracial band also reflect Prince's approach. But Sly, a tortured genius, hasn't been heard from in years. A logical sub would be Sly & the Family Stone bassist Larry Graham. A giant among bass players, an R&B hitmaker and a close friend of Prince's (and fellow evangelizing Jehovah's Witness), Graham would be too obscure for the TV masses, however.
9 Carlos Santana. Another Hall of Famer and early influence on Prince. However, Santana's speeches tend to be lost in the spiritual ozone. Plus, Clive Davis, the record-label president who is a Hall of Famer himself, insists that Santana associate with young artists such as Michelle Branch.
8 George Clinton. In 1997, Prince gave the Hall of Fame induction speech for the Godfather of Funk, his friend and hero. As for a role reversal, well, Clinton's music speaks louder -- and more clearly -- than his words.
7 Chaka Khan. As a teen, Prince had posters of her on his bedroom walls. She scored a solo hit with an interpretation of his "Feel 4 U," but she isn't much more talkative than the shy Prince.
6 Bob Dylan or Bruce Springsteen. It would be a dream if Dylan, a fellow Minnesota maverick, inducted Prince, but Dylan isn't big on making speeches. However, Springsteen is, and he's been called upon to induct several Hall of Fame heavyweights, including Dylan and Roy Orbison. Both the Boss and Prince had their biggest albums ("Born in the U.S.A." and "Purple Rain") in 1984. Other than that, there isn't much of a connection -- musical or personal -- between them.
5 Joni Mitchell. Another Hall of Famer who influenced Prince. She didn't even show up for her own induction, so why would she turn up this time? Well, she did travel to Sheridan, Wyo., for the premiere of Prince's second film, "Under the Cherry Moon."
4 Beck. VH1 would love someone relatively young and hip like Beck. He's a funky cross-breeder of styles, and he often covers Prince songs in concert. But to VH1 programmers, he's so 1990s.
3 OutKast. This hip-hop duo is hot, hip and heavily influenced by Prince. But are they recognizable enough to VH1 viewers to honor the year's most prominent inductee?
2 Neil Young. Musically, this two-time Hall of Famer (both as a solo act and with Buffalo Springfield) has little in common with Prince. However, both are iconoclasts who travel to their own beat, thumbing their noses at major labels and even their own fans. That would make Young a fitting choice. But he has such an unfavorable view of VH1 that it's questionable whether he'd show up.
1 Lenny Kravitz. He and Prince are friendly enough to have jammed onstage and in the studio. He borrows from some of the same '60s/'70s influences that Prince did. VH1 loves him as much as he loves Prince. Just last year, the music network named Kravitz one of its "25 sexiest." And if he's still squiring Nicole Kidman come the March induction ceremony, his Q rating will be higher than Sly Stone could ever take you.
Kravitz, who launched his career as Romeo Blue as a tribute to you-know-who, is the one to induct His Purpleness.

New York, New York, November 20, 2003 -The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation is proud to announce the 2004 Inductees in the “Performer” category. The announcement was made today by Suzan Evans, Executive Director of the Foundation.
The following artists will be inducted at the Nineteenth Annual Induction Ceremony, which will be held Monday, March 15th in New York at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel:
Jackson Browne -- For more than three decades, Jackson Browne has been one of rock’s consummate singer-songwriters. Writing intricately crafted, deeply personal songs, he made his mark as a master chronicler of the affairs of the heart.
The Dells -- The Dells began recording in 1953 and still perform today with virtually all original members. They have performed and charted in every decade since the Fifties, making them one of the most influential vocal groups of all time.
George Harrison -- Post-Beatles, George Harrison’s career spanned three decades during which he not only furthered his artistry as a musician, songwriter, and producer (of music and numerous films), but as a humanitarian on the world stage.
Prince – Self-produced since his debut at age 20, Prince is one of the most unpredictable as well as one of the most magnificently charismatic figures in the entire pop landscape. His fusion of rock, funk, soul, metal and punk has defied all stereotypes.
Bob Seger – Detroit’s standard-bearer of rock and soul began his multi-platinum streak in 1975, followed by a decade of nearly 20 consecutive top 40 singles, all of which celebrated Bob Seger’s allegiance to and love affair with the music that provided his escape from an impoverished childhood.
Traffic -- Nurtured in the communal flush of the British Invasion, Traffic outgrew its
psychedelic pop roots to become a true fusion group – melding a folk-inspired simplicity with bluesy jazz improv that was given plenty of space on its extended compositions.
ZZ Top -- With the Texas soul, outlaw boogie, and souped-up hot rod funk served up by the durable power trio of Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard – ZZ Top – is literally the last word in rock. Three-plus decades on, these Funky Kings might just go on forever.
In commenting on this year’s inductees, Evans said, “These inductees represent many influential genres of rock and roll, including pop, funk, soul, boogie and psychedelia. We expect this year’s show to be unique and exciting with highly anticipated moments.”
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria considered includes the influence and significance of the artist's contribution to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.
The Foundation's nominating committee, composed of rock and roll historians, selects nominees each year in the "artist" category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of about 700 rock experts.
The honoree in the Lifetime Achievement Award in the Non-Performer Category will be announced shortly.

Petite précision concernant la diffusion sur VH-1... Si la cérémonie est bien prévue le 15 mars prochain, la diffusion télé aura lieue seulement le 21 mars à 19h00 (heure locale)... Le Star Tribune, le quotidien de Minneapolis, sortira une édition spéciale ce dimanche 14/03 avec 10 pages consacrées à Prince et à son entrée au Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

Est-ce qu'il doit y avoir un choix entre ZZ Top, George Harrison et Prince (les 3 en photos sur le lien VH1 mais peut-être y en a-t-il d'autres...) ? En fait, il y a 3 entrées cette année, celles que tu viens de citer... Prince rentre donc bien au fameux R&RHOF et sera "introduit" par André 3000 de Outkast et Alicia Keys (deux artistes de l'écurie BMG de Clive Davis...tiens tiens... Euh enfin bref). The Purple One - quirks, genius and all - is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

No one understands Prince. The purple, the name changes, the seemingly never-ending parade of exotically named, misguided would-be singers, the ongoing love-hate affair with record labels? It's all so hard to explain.
Nevertheless, Prince is easy to appreciate. He fused pop, rock, soul and funk into something completely new, an irresistible concoction that became known as "The Minneapolis Sound" and ruled the radio in the '80s, and he continues to influence current artists from OutKast to Justin Timberlake. Monday, he becomes one of only a handful of artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the first year of eligibility. And 26 years into his purple reign, the 45-year-old Prince is revving up to surprise his fans and convert nonbelievers again with a new album and a new tour, both launching this month.
A 'genius'
"He is indisputably a genius," says Howard Kramer, associate curator of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. "He may have his idiosyncracies, but when you see him, you can't help but think, 'Wow! That guy's got it.' He is amazing. ... He wasn't ahead of his time. He is timeless."
When 20- year-old Prince Rogers Nelson released his debut album, "For You," in 1978, his trademarks were already in place. He played all the instruments like a virtuoso on the album. His melodies were intricate but memorable. His lyrics were on the racy side, especially on the R&B hit "Soft and Wet." Though he has since tackled every style of popular music from blues and jazz to hip-hop and gospel, that combination of elements remains intact.
Prince spent the early part of the Reagan '80s gleefully pushing musical boundaries and pushing the buttons of conservatives. Albums such as "Dirty Mind," which included the PG- 13 cover of him wearing only a blazer and bikini briefs, and "Controversy," which mixed political statements such as the title track and "Ronnie, Talk to Russia" with brazen bedtime talk like "Sexuality" and a more vulgar song title that can't be printed here, were well received but didn't prepare the public for what followed.
Scoring big-time
In 1983, with the ambitious double album "1999," Prince not only scored with hits ,including the title track and "Little Red Corvette," he showed he could embrace contemporary sounds, like the fizzy, synth-driven new wave of "Delirious," and fold them into his rock/R&B base. By the time "Purple Rain" became a blockbuster movie and No. 1 soundtrack in 1984, Prince was one of music's biggest stars, with only Michael Jackson and Madonna in his league.
In his book "Possessed: The Rise and Fall of Prince" (Billboard, 2003), author Alex Hahn details how Prince once asked his keyboardist Matt Fink why Bob Seger was so successful. Fink explained how Seger's anthems appealed to America's heartland, adding, "Write something like that and you'll cross right over."
Prince took the challenge, part of his plan to become a bigger star, without giving up on being an artist. Soon, the anthemic "Purple Rain" was born.
Explicit content
In the end, the "Purple Rain" soundtrack sold 13 million copies in the United States alone, with help from four Top 10 hits, including two No. 1s, "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy." The album made Prince that rare combination of popular and critical favorite. However, its racy lyrics, especially the R- rated antics of his pal Nikki and what she does in a hotel lobby with a magazine, made Prince a political lightning rod. In the aftermath of Janet Jackson's bared breast at the Super Bowl and Madonna's smooches with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the MTV Video Music Awards, the outcry over "Darling Nikki" seems quaint. "Purple Rain," however, has grown in stature over the years, with a younger generation of singers turning "Baby, I'm a Star" into a reality-show-tryout standard, hip-hoppers reconstructing the deceptive rhythmic simplicity of "When Doves Cry" and rockers wilding out to the guitar solo on "Let's Go Crazy." In fact, Prince celebrated the 20th anniversary of "Purple Rain" at the Grammys last month by opening the show and performing with Beyoncé.
The reclusive Prince declined to be interviewed for this article. However, Sam Jennings, who handles the singer's New Power Generation Music Club, both online and off, says that Prince was thrilled by the Grammy attention.
"He definitely recognized it as an honor, not as something to help him," Jennings says. "What happened, though, was that a lot of people were really blown away by his performance. A lot of people took notice again of him. The result is that we're doing presales for his tour now, and the interest in him is much higher."
A bid for the mainstream

While Prince was alone in his battle at the time, today dozens of artists are fighting the same fight, even lobbying the California legislature to pass a law that would nullify many recording contracts.
His long-running fight with the music industry resulted in a loss of radio and video airplay, as well as concert ticket and CD sales. With the falling sales came more talk about the singer's eccentricities, as well as rumors of tough economic times.
No regrets
Prince doesn't regret his pioneering stand; he has said even though he sells fewer albums through his independent label, New Power Generation Records, that because he gets a larger percentage of the profits, he actually makes more money on most releases.
Jennings declined to give sales figures for Prince's recent releases, adding that the company doesn't even generally use SoundScan, the company that tracks sales for the industry. Elliott told a "TRL" crowd recently that the biggest thrill of the Grammys was being in the same room as Prince. "I don't feel like Missy Elliott around him," she says. "I was in groupie mode."
The Foo Fighters recently had a rock radio hit with their version of "Darling Nikki." OutKast's Andre 3000, who is expected to induct the artist into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the ceremony tomorrow, took inspiration from Prince for parts of his acclaimed "The Love Below" CD.
Even pop singer JC Chasez counts Prince as a major influence, with several songs on his debut solo CD "Schizophrenic" bearing similarities to Prince's pop-funk "Purple Rain" phase. "He's just a superb musician, producer and vocalist," says Chasez, who has been covering "Let's Go Crazy" as part of his current tour. "I mean the guy could play, sing and put on a hell of a show. I watched a DVD he did in Paisley Park, and I always found the guy entertaining. I just think he's a great artist."
Kramer of the Rock Hall says Prince's influence today isn't surprising: "It shows how enduring a figure he is. Though Prince is not by definition a hip-hop artist, he is still influencing it. He really defies all definitions. He does everything so well."Artists are eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland 25 years after their first major musical work is released. This year's class, including Prince, will be inducted at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in Manhattan Monday. The ceremonies will air on VH1 March 21.

No one understands Prince. The purple, the name changes, the seemingly never-ending parade of exotically named, misguided would-be singers, the ongoing love-hate affair with record labels? It's all so hard to explain.
Nevertheless, Prince is easy to appreciate. He fused pop, rock, soul and funk into something completely new, an irresistible concoction that became known as "The Minneapolis Sound" and ruled the radio in the '80s, and he continues to influence current artists from OutKast to Justin Timberlake. Monday, he becomes one of only a handful of artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the first year of eligibility. And 26 years into his purple reign, the 45-year-old Prince is revving up to surprise his fans and convert nonbelievers again with a new album and a new tour, both launching this month.
A 'genius'
"He is indisputably a genius," says Howard Kramer, associate curator of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. "He may have his idiosyncracies, but when you see him, you can't help but think, 'Wow! That guy's got it.' He is amazing. ... He wasn't ahead of his time. He is timeless."
When 20- year-old Prince Rogers Nelson released his debut album, "For You," in 1978, his trademarks were already in place. He played all the instruments like a virtuoso on the album. His melodies were intricate but memorable. His lyrics were on the racy side, especially on the R&B hit "Soft and Wet." Though he has since tackled every style of popular music from blues and jazz to hip-hop and gospel, that combination of elements remains intact.
Prince spent the early part of the Reagan '80s gleefully pushing musical boundaries and pushing the buttons of conservatives. Albums such as "Dirty Mind," which included the PG- 13 cover of him wearing only a blazer and bikini briefs, and "Controversy," which mixed political statements such as the title track and "Ronnie, Talk to Russia" with brazen bedtime talk like "Sexuality" and a more vulgar song title that can't be printed here, were well received but didn't prepare the public for what followed.
Scoring big-time
In 1983, with the ambitious double album "1999," Prince not only scored with hits ,including the title track and "Little Red Corvette," he showed he could embrace contemporary sounds, like the fizzy, synth-driven new wave of "Delirious," and fold them into his rock/R&B base. By the time "Purple Rain" became a blockbuster movie and No. 1 soundtrack in 1984, Prince was one of music's biggest stars, with only Michael Jackson and Madonna in his league.
In his book "Possessed: The Rise and Fall of Prince" (Billboard, 2003), author Alex Hahn details how Prince once asked his keyboardist Matt Fink why Bob Seger was so successful. Fink explained how Seger's anthems appealed to America's heartland, adding, "Write something like that and you'll cross right over."
Prince took the challenge, part of his plan to become a bigger star, without giving up on being an artist. Soon, the anthemic "Purple Rain" was born.

In the end, the "Purple Rain" soundtrack sold 13 million copies in the United States alone, with help from four Top 10 hits, including two No. 1s, "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy." The album made Prince that rare combination of popular and critical favorite. Voila un résumer tout pourri de l'article :
Prince fait pleins de trucs incompréhensibles.
Mais sa musique est facile a apprécier. C'est une fusion de pop, rock, funk et soul et ça a donné le « Mineapolis Sound » qui a cartonné à la Radio dans les 80's et qui influence des artistes comme OutKast et Justine Timberlake. Lundi il sera nommé au RRHOF et c'est un des seuls à l'être la première année de son éligibilité.
Howard Kramer (le co-créateur du RRHOF), explique que c'est un génie, qu'il n'est pas seulement en avance sur son temps mais « hors du temps»
A 20 ans il sort son premier album « for U » ou il joue en virtuose de tout les instrument.
Sous Regan il provoquait les conservateur avec des textes politiques (« Ronnie talk to russia ») ou sexuellement explicite.
PR a été un carton et c'est a cause de « Darling Nikki » qu'on a inventer l'autocollant « Explicit Lyrics »
En ce moment y a un buzz autour du nain : les grammy (il était content qu'on lui propose de le faire) pleins de passage télé et une tournée ou il va jouer ces hits.
On sait pas trop comment il va distribuer Musicology et il prétend être un contact avec pleins de labels pour qu'ils le distribuent en même temps.
Ce qui est en contradiction, avec son comportement quand il se frittait avec la warner (Slave, Symbol...)
Ils c'est battu seul pendant le système pendant des années alors qu'aujourd'hui une dizaines d'artistes font la même chose.
Son combat lui a fait perdre : pleins de passage radio, des ventes de disques et de tickets.
Mais il s'en branle parce qu'il se fait une plus grosse part sur les ventes d'aujourd'hui.
La plupart de ces derniers disques se vendent entre 100 000 et 500 000 copies.
Ces derniers temps il a essayé plusieurs type de promotion du "bouche à bouche" à la grosse conférence de presse. Et cette année il semble vouloir faire « profil haut » .
Les artistes d'aujourd'hui ne l'ont pas oublié : Alicia Keys, Missy Elliot ont repris Kiss aux Brits, André3000 et JC Chasez déclare que c'est une grosse influence.

Vu toutes les personnes qui ce donne du mal sur ce site ce n ai qu'une infime contribution.Merci now_bx surtous que l on ce demande deja quel seront les critique de la prochaine apparition TV (j aime pas ca ,il a fais ,il a pas fais ca) alors que nous n'avons rien eu pendant des anneé.Mais pour moi ces toujour un plaisir de voir l'ARTISTE meme jouer encore Purple Rain que nous entandrons encore jepere pendant plusieur année.
