Prince has been chosen to receive the Vanguard Award at this year's NAACP Image Awards!!! This is the 36th NAACP Image Awards. This is wonderful news because it means Prince should definitely be there to receive the award and deliver an acceptance speech!
Other special award recipients for this year are Oprah Winfrey (who will receive the Hall of Fame Award) and Barack Obama (who will receive the Chairman's Award).
The awards ceremony will be taped on March 19th at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The show will then be aired on Fox on Friday, March 25th.

Little report at the club:
"It was off the chain NPGMC!!!! Prince, Sheila, Morris & Jerome tore the house down. Everyone was out of their seats the entire time he was on stage. Mr. D.M.S.R himself wore a shirt with 3121 on the back. The only familiar faces for me in the band was Kat Dyson on guitar.
The band played Prince did Housequake & D.M.S.R along with some cover songs. Sheila did Glamourous Life and Morris & Jerome hit us with the bird.
I nearly died when Prince came down the aisle I was sitting on and let Vanessa Williams and Flex sing along to Glamorous Life. Vanessa was soooo excited afterwards.
Prince looked very happy while giving his acceptance speech. The audience looked beautiful all decked out in their formal wear. Prince and the band were the highlight of the evening along with Obama & Oprah

An another great report by the 1 & only J7 (the master of report):
"Let me just get right into this because I am sure u don't want to read my jibber-jabber.
Last of the night after being there like over 4 hours. They talk up Prince. They show a video montage of Prince which includes backstage scenes of the Musicology tour. The place is ready 4 Prince. He comes out wearing a black n white number n the stage behind him was set up moments ago.
He gives thanks 2 Jehovah n thanks his presenters and the NAACP and says in a few words or more that instead of talking he rather show how much he appreciates the award, by doing what he does best n play. He asks the audience is it cool if he plays 4 a bit n they don't mind at all.
Prince is on stage with Sheila, Kat Dyson, Mr. Hayes, several horn players including Greg Boyer n a keyboardist I did not know. This is Sheila's band and they are TIGHT!!
It kicks off with D.M.S.R. with Prince on the Hohner guitar and as he flips round, on his outfit in the back it has the numbers 3121 (oh lawd), then goes into two covers I believe, one taken the lead by the unnamed keyboardist at the moment and then a lady with some pipes that belted out the jam. And then......Prince...at his own keyboards....throwing down a BRAND NEW song. A ballad. Wait til u see the broadcast on friday.
I lose track round here but he did "Housequake" and the place went nuts. He went into the crowd during "Glamorous Life" and did a lil bit of the "Jam" and then poof.....u hear the sounds of the bird.....n here come Morris and Jerome, with mirror in hand and Prince gets on the boards n they r doing the "Bird". The crowd went nuts.
The roof was torn off the DCP. The place exploded. Mani had the biggest smile on her face. All of em doing the bird. In----sane! Prince then went into the Santana medley n Sheila went off! Tore up her equipment. Prince was playing guitar and continued to not only rip the rest of the roof off but Sheila and them tore that place down to it's foundation. After the dust settled, u see Prince walking off stage.
Prince said he wanted 2 show what this award meant to him, well, it must have meant a lot because he pulled it all out with what seemed like a 2 hour show rolled into a 10 minute set.
Now, I know after a performance like that, Prince cannot possibly be calling it a night. Something tells me 2night 3121 is the place 2 be and trust me, if I was there, I might never wanna leave. "
