Prince Brings Publishing In-House
Superstar assigns rights to song catalog to his own NPG Music Publishing.
Fresh from releasing, ‘FALLINLOVE2NITE,” his latest single, on Epic Records, Prince has announced that he is assigning the rights to his catalog to NPG Music Publishing, which means he will be doing it himself, with the help of “some of the best talent in the industry,” according to the release.

Prince’s last publishing deal was with Universal Music, before leaving the company several years ago. He had been inked to Kobalt Music for a label services deal, but chose to release his latest single through L.A. Reid’s Epic label.
The Grammy-winning multi-platinum icon’s songs, which he considers ‘fit 4 eternal publication,” includes such hits as “Kiss,” “When Doves Cry,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Let's Go Crazy,” “U Got the Look,” “Purple Rain” and “Diamonds and Pearls,” most of which he played at a mammoth four-hour-plus show at the Palladium in Hollywood last month. NPG Music Publishing marks the first time Prince’s publishing has been independently controlled and administered in more than 20 years.
NPG Music Publishing was founded by Artists for Artists, and reportedly secured the placement for his new single on the Fox television show New Girl earlier this year, in which Prince himself appeared and performed the song. The episode aired directly after the Super Bowl and brought in record-breaking viewership.
NPG Music Publishing is now actively seeking placement for some of Prince's songs in film, television, video games and the commercial realm.

Prince Is Going to Publish His Own Music Catalog, Leaves Universal
http://www.showbiz411.com/2014/04/04/pr ... -universal
Oh Prince! He’s a stranger in a strange land. He sent out a press release today announcing that NPG Music Publishing is his new music publisher. Of course,Prince is NPG, New Power Generation, so that means he’s publishing himself. He was published previously by Universal Music Publishing.
Why the change? And why do it himself? It’s a big job administrating a music publishing catalog. Few do it. Paul McCartney has had his own company for years. But most everyone goes through one of the big firms. I’m sure any of them would have been happy to do it, for a good price. But Prince funks to his own inner drum beat. He established NPG Music Publishing just a month ago as an LLC.
Who will run it, staff it, etc? He says, “The team will be led by some of the best talent in the industry.” This is Swahili for “We don’t know.” Indeed, to demonstrate that point, Prince adds: “NPG Music Publishing is now actively seeking placement for some of Prince’s best-loved songs in film, television, video games and the commercial realm.”
He will be on Santa Monica and Wilshire tomorrow in front of Starbucks wearing a sandwich board and accepting offers.
