Biographie

B.K. Jackson is a teenage saxophone sensation from Tampa, Florida. B.K. is an exceptional musician and has been electrifying audiences in the Tampa Bay area for several years. B.K. first performed at the age of 11, and has received numerous awards for his talents. He was voted as the 2007 Tampa Bay Entertainer of the Year (First Annual Black Diamond Award) and was the 2007 NAACP ACT-SO (Afro Ac
ademic Technological Scientific Olympics) Gold Medal Winner in the Music Instrumental/Contemporary Category. Most recently, on June 6, 2008, B.K. (the youngest person ever selected as a finalist) won the fifth annual 2008 Capital Jazz Festival Challenge in Columbia, Maryland.

B.K. has opened for numerous nationally renowned artists, such as Brian McKnight, Fantasia, Kirk Whalum, Pieces of a Dream, Wayman Tisdale, Paul Brown, Ken Navarro, Gerald Albright, Eric Darius, 480 East, Arturo Sandoval, and Roy Ayers. In May 2008, B.K. had the privilege of opening for the renowned blues artist B.B. King at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida, and received three standing ovations during his 30-min. set. On October 16, 2008, B.K. opened the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Festival for the legendary Tony Bennett. In addition, B.K. performs regularly throughout the Tampa/Clearwater/St. Petersburg area. B.K. wows the crowds with his extraordinary talent, stage presence, and ability to command an audience.

In August 2008, B.K. released his debut CD “On the Move.” The first two releases from the CD are track 1 “On the Move” and track 7 “That Time of Night.” This CD is very impressive, especially given that most of the original tunes were co-written by B.K. at age 16, with the exception of “Feelin’ Saxy” which was written by him when he was in the seventh grade. He is truly a talent well beyond his years!

B.K. Jackson is a graduate of Howard W. Blake High School for the Performing Arts. BK currently attends Florida A&M University where he is a part of the Jazz Studies program.

Biographie
Originally hailing from Austin, TX, Saxophonist/Flautist Sylvester Onyejiaka was fascinated by music at a very young age. Often staying after church to play the drum set, sing in the choir, or tinker around on the piano, it was only a matter of time before his parents got him his first saxophone at the age of 11. Initially self taught, he joined band a year later than his peers, quickly rising to
the top, repeatedly placing first in his class and earning top marks at Solo and Ensemble Competitions. By age 14, Mr. Alex Parker, then the jazz band director at Pflugerville High School, encouraged Sylvester to explore a more than budding interest in Jazz and Improvisation by offering him a spot in the high school jazz band. Sylvester continued to harness his craft, eventually landing at the University of North Texas where he played in numerous ensembles and was featured on many recordings; the most notable of these being the recent Grammy Nominated “Lab 2009” with the One O’Clock Lab Band under the direction of Mr. Steve Wiest. While in Denton Sylvester took the time to explore many different genres of music in addition to jazz -- composing and playing for numerous Pop and R&B bands, Cover Bands, Hip-Hop, and Rock bands. Sylvester has had the chance to perform and or record with great musicians such as The Dave Brubeck Quartet, James Carter, Darrell Green, Wynton Marsalis, Jason Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Delfayo Marsalis, Brad Leali, Shelley Carrol, Quamon Fowler, Vincent Gardner, Derrick Gardner, Sene, Homeboy Sandman, Blu, Freddie Gibbs, and Stockton Helbing in addition to opening up for the Morris Day and the Time, and The Original Family Stone. He has also shared the stage with legendary Pop/R&B producer Rob Lewis. Currently, he resides in Brooklyn New York where in addition to his solo jazz project, he is currently working with “Recess”(an instrumental hip-hop collaboration with rapper Sene and the Clubhouse), Producer Phil Lassiter (Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Anthony Hamilton) on his solo project “Philthy”, MiloZ, and has been known to arrange for strings and horns . He is also a resident musician/producer at TheClubhouse (http://www.theclubcasa.com) .

Biographie

After his breakthrough in contemporary jazz circles as the 2009 winner of the Capital Jazz Fest Challenge, Marcus Anderson is embracing every opportunity to perform and inspire fans – and most importantly, as the title of his third and latest CD attests, fully living in the NOW. The multi-talented composer, saxophonist and flutist’s original working title was “Transition,” a nod to the powerful ongoing development of his career and his move toward the top tier of contemporary jazz. Anderson realized that the career he had always dreamed of was indeed happening right NOW, and it’s exciting. With the release of NOW, his third solo CD, Anderson’s goal is to capture the energy from his live shows and make this collection of music his most dynamic, joyful and creative recordings yet.

Anderson, a South Carolina native, is from a large musical family of seven siblings. Growing up, both of his parents sang regularly, but it was his father who introduced him to Jazz, which has become his passion. Aware of his natural talent, his parents nurtured his musicality and he began performing in church with his older brothers. He graduated from Dorman High School in Roebuck, SC and after graduation he continued his jazz studies at North Carolina Central University. There he was a member of the program’s world renowned Jazz Ensemble directed by Dr. Ira Wiggins. He studied with Branford Marsalis and Gospel Saxophonist, Donald Hayes for several years.

His numerous accolades include All-State High School Jazz Ensemble for South Carolina three consecutive years, receiving the Chancellor’s Award three times, and having performed for Hilary Clinton and Jesse Jackson. He was a member of the HBCU All-Star Jazz Ensemble as 1st Tenor Sax for three consecutive years, and he is a proud member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America and Kappa Alpha Psi Fratenity Inc. He was recently nominated and won the North Carolina Gospel Announcers Guild 2011 Prestige Awards for Gospel Jazz Artist of the Year.

On Stage

No one can deny the energy created during a live performance. It’s magical how an artist can connect with the audience and make that moment powerful and memorable. Anderson has an explosive energy on stage, and it shows in all of his live performances, including past high profile appearances at venues such as Jazz Alley in Seattle, the Catalina Island Jazz Trax Festival (where he’s been invited again to play in 2011), Humphrey’s in San Diego, Spaghettini in Seal Beach and the Seabreeze Jazz Festival in Panama City, Florida.

Widely recognized for his natural ability to entertain, early on he quickly became a first call sideman, and performed with groups such as Pieces of a Dream and Four 80 East. Marcus has also been invited to perform with or open for Peter White, Boney James, Mike Phillips, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, George Duke, Everette Harp, Wynton Marsalis, Alex Bugnon, Nnenna Freelon, Bob Baldwin, Matt Marshak, Ledisi, Jennifer Holiday, Lalah Hathaway and many others. He’s now packing the venues with devout fans who shout for more. “For me, it’s about the crowd”, said Anderson, “I feed off their energy”.

Music

Anderson’s newest and third solo CD is a 13-track collection driven by his trademark powerful horn textured melodies, which he composes as if his saxes are singing like vocalists with dynamic, sensual and funky grooves. He also occasionally plays flute, and creates fascinating vocals on covers of Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time” and Smokey Robinson’s “Cruisin’” using the AKAI EWI 4000 and talkbox. The saxophonist vibes on NOW with incredible young musicians like 17-year-old keyboardist Nicholas Cole, bassist Julian Vaughn, as well as the popular Canadian electronic duo Four80East (on “M-Powered”). But it is on the soulful “Together Forever” that he joins vocalist and twin-brother Marcel Anderson to create harmonies reminiscent of the great gospel-jazz group Take 6.

“When I started the album,” Anderson says, “I was thinking I was just making the transition into the next phase of my career. But then I thought about these past two incredible years and realized I was already living that phase Now!”

NOW is expected to debut high on the charts just like his second album From The Heart (2009) did. It drew critical raves and earned strong airplay for both “Karsen’s Song” and “Sparkle City” (written about his hometown of Spartanburg, South Carolina.) The track “Everything’s Clearer” was played regularly on the Cable TV network; Music Choice. His first CD, My Turn, is an upbeat collection of musical moods ranging from bold jazz grooves to romantic ballads. Notable singles from My Turn include the title track, “Waiting For You,” and “That’s The Way It Goes.”

Reviews

“Between the time I wrote my glowing review of Marcus Anderson’s 2009 collection From The Heart and today, I had the privilege of seeing the great indie sax player onstage. Naturally, my expectations were doubly high for his appropriately titled follow-up NOW, and I’m excited to say he delivered! This well produced 13-track set is driven by Anderson’s dynamic and emotionally powerful horn textured melodies (many of which feature him playing any combination of tenor, alto and/or soprano) and colorful in the pocket grooves. NOW is also notable for Anderson’s keen use of the AKAI EWI 4000 and “talkbox” on select tracks. The multi-talented saxman/composer also keeps high profile company, vibing strongly with guitarist Nate Najar, keyboardist Nicholas Cole, bassist Julian Vaughn and, on one of NOW’s most engaging and trippy tracks, the chill electronica flavored “M. Powered”--the Canadian duo Four80East who also produced the track. Urban jazz fans who favor Albright, James and Whalum need to add a little of Marcus’ creatively expansive sunshine to their worlds”. – Jonathan Widran, All Music Guide

“Saxophonist Marcus Anderson, a Capitol Jazz Fest Challenge winner who has studied with Branford Marsalis, is a man you want to know if you like your contemporary jazz funky, urban and uplifting. The title track to his third solo CD, NOW, is a bouncy soprano sax tune that’s sure to remind listeners of the best of Kim Waters. Anderson also lays down his burnished, deeper-sounding tenor sax on such tempting originals as “Feeling You” and “M-Powered,” the latter produced, mixed and arranging by the award-winning jazz duo Four80East. Old-school fans will simply dig Anderson’s talkbox talents on classics; Smokey Robinson’s “Crusin’” and Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time.” Add the urban-adult flavor of “Together Forever” with Marcel Anderson’s smooth vocals and Marcus Cole’s smoky vocals on the anthemic “Family Bond,” and you’ve got yourself one the best CDs of 2011”. – Brian Soergel, JazzTimes

“One of the most entertaining, solid and innovative of the newer saxmen, Marcus Anderson riled the crowd and turned the King of Pop Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time” into a rousing tribute, complete with a touch of the MJ dance and the wearing of the Glove. His use of the EWI was icing on the cake. In fact, he actually made excellent use of that instrument at various points during his magnificent performance. Also noteworthy was his impressive handling of some standard jazz runs during one of R&B vocalist Pam Ward’s performances, proving that he’s more than just another run-of-the-mill smooth jazz sax.” – Ronald Jackson, The Smooth Ride

“Marcus Anderson has to be one of contemporary jazz’s best kept secrets on the circuit. Anderson’s blissful horn and dazzling arrangements coupled with his crowd pleasing performances make him a true gem on the horizon.” – Rachelle Bivens, ABYSSJazz Magazine

Biographie

Adrian Crutchfield is known mostly for his neo-soul sound. His silky smooth tambre creates beautiful music in a variety of genres including jazz, funk, latin and rock.

Adrian's star began shining at the tender age of four when he received his first saxophone from acclaimed jazz artist Kenny G during a concert in Roanoke, VA. Kenny G noticed Adrian was engrossed with his performance and briefly stopped the concert to bring Adrian to the side of the stage. After blowing a few notes, he gave Adrian his first saxophone.

Twenty years later, in 2009, the charismatic and passionate Crutchfield released his debut compact disc entitled, "Private Party". Mr. Crutchfield’s initial project highlights his diverse musical interests and talents by featuring his sophisticated sax on jazz, neo soul, and hip hop tracks. A 2008 graduate of Florida State University (B.A. in Music with a concentration in jazz, contemporary media and commercial music);

Adrian has had the privilege of performing with some of today's brightest stars. While attending college (April 2006), Adrian became the sax man for national rhythm and blues recording artist Anthony Hamilton during the “Change Your World Tour” which featured other popular R & B artists such as Heather Headley, Van Hunt, and Vivian Green. Adrian has also played behind American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino, and for internationally known rap star Young Jeezy. Most recently, Mr. Crutchfield played along side smooth jazz icon Kim Waters.

Adrian began his professional music career at the age of 14 by appearing in shows and clubs in Charlotte, N.C. During this period, he also had a part as a swing dancer in the made-for-television movie Shake, Rattle and Roll! and performed with The Gap Band and Fourplay. At the age of 16, Adrian opened a concert for veteran recording artist Regina Belle and a year later was offered a permanent position in the band of neo soul diva Angie Stone after performing for the artist on her birthday.

Adrian Crutchfield is an emerging star. As a 24 year old saxophone aficionado, he is poised and ready to become one of his generation’s most prolific and successful professional musicians.

Biographie

Born in Dallas, Texas, 1970, Mr. Anderson discovered his love for music at the early age of 10. He started playing drums, until he found his true passion for the saxophone.

He began studying with James Wilson, who would give him a pinch for each mistake, which he attributes, today, for his dedication and hard work. At this time, Keith Anderson was accepted to Arts Magnet High School later re-named The School for Visual and Performing Arts, where Keith was under direct leadership of Bart Marantz. Mr. Anderson's talents and unique flair for playing the saxophone can be attributed to much and many. Keith started playing locally with a singer by the name of Pat Peterson, who was one of the original Raylettes and now, is one of the singers for John Cougar Mellancamp. Later, Keith would be discovered by the legendary, Les McCann. This was a man of major influence and of many commendations.

Since then, Mr. Anderson has traveled the world as Les’s featured soloist, who has performed for thousands and played with many all around the globe. These artists include Roy Hargrove, Erykah Badu, Bobby Lyle, Kirk Franklin, and the great Cab Calloway during which it was quoted many times that Mr.Anderson was “the newest of the Texas Tenors”. Mr.Anderson’s most recent engagement consists of recording with Al Jareau on his new album to be released in 2004. On this project he accompanied Mark Simmons, Larry Williams, and Christian McBride.

To show Mr. Anderson's “Diversity” he was also recruited to record with hip-hop guru Kanye West on his "College Dropout" CD. Most recent projects entail Fred Hammond's "Free To Worship", Marcus Miller "Free", Kenny Lattimore and Chante Moore.

“Diversity”, his debut CD, lives up to its name, and his New Release "Let's Roll". Anderson’s accomplishments include published songwriting for such artists as Roy Hargrove, Paul Jackson Jr. and various artists for Sony Records. Mr. Anderson’s future embraces his next CD release "Live at Ovations" ,availible very soon... Anderson continues to produce CD’s, tour, as well as, expression through his songwriting. Keith is now a member of Marcus Miller's band, and also band leader of his own band called Full Of Soul.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR TRUE SOULFULL MUSIC, YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE."FULL OF SOUL ENTERTAINMENT. KEITH WAS RECENTLY NOTIFIED THAT THREE OF MANY CD'S WHICH HE PLAYED ON IN 2004 WERE GRAMMY NOMINATED.
- KANYE WEST "COLLEGE DROPOUT"
- AL JARREAU "ACCENTUATE THE POSSITIVE"
- ROY HARGROVE AND THE RH FACTOR "STRENGTH"
